Description:

The only marking on this interesting trap gun is "SMITH" on the bridle-less lock. The barrel has a flared muzzle and appears to be around 16 gauge. The gun has a trigger barrel with a hook on the end and an iron swivel mount. Guns like this appear to have been mainly used as trip wire alarms but they could have also been baited for hunting. This particular design is one of the more common though they still vary from example to example. This variety is often labeled as a "grave robber trap gun." Provenance: The Collection of Joe M. Wanenmacher Jr

Rating Definition:

Good with dark brown patina on the lock, a black painted finish on the barrel and hardware, moderate oxidation, some chipping on the otherwise good wood, some absent hardware, and moderate overall wear. Mechanically fine.
