This Winchester Model 1886 rifle has several special order features that make it highly desirable to modern collectors. Besides its deluxe configuration, these special order features include the half octagon barrel, button magazine, set trigger, and Swiss buttplate. This is a rare combination of features that are sought after by today's collectors but rarely found. It was manufactured in 1887, the second year of production. The factory letter (copy) lists this rifle with a 26 inch half octagon barrel in .45-70 caliber, set trigger, half magazine, checkered pistol grip stock, and Swiss butt when received in the warehouse on June 6, 1887 and shipped the same day. The rifle was later fully restored by Turnbull Restoration Co. to manufactured specifications. The rifle is fitted with a German silver insert blade front sight and a No. 22 sporting rear sight. The top barrel flat has the two-line Winchester address marking stamped ahead of the rear sight and "45-70" at the breech. The casehardened receiver is fitted with a nitre blue set trigger. The upper tang is marked "-MODEL 1886-", and the lower tang has the patent dates marking and serial number. The 3x select grade walnut forearm and pistol grip stock feature H" style checkering. The buttstock is fitted with a nickel plated Swiss buttplate. Provenance: The Wayne Connor Collection
