Manufactured in 1896, this is a very attractive, early production, special order Winchester deluxe Model 1894. The top of the barrel has the two-line Winchester address and caliber marking at the breech. The upper tang has the three-line model, trademark, and patent information (hidden under peep sight), and the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. The left side of the lower tang is marked "3078 XX" and "3083" is marked inside the buttplate. It is fitted with a Lyman No. 5B Beach combination front sight, a blank filler in the rear sight dovetail, and a Lyman No. 2 peep sight on the upper tang. It has also been fitted with a factory style double set trigger. It is mounted with a nicely figured, H-pattern checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber grip cap and a crescent buttplate. The included factory letter (copy) lists the rifle in .30 W.C.F. caliber with a round barrel, plain trigger, half magazine, Lyman front and rear sights, blank piece put in rear seat, and a checkered pistol grip stock when received at the warehouse on 23 July 1896 and shipped the next day. The letter also lists a "return and repair" date of 1 August 1896, which is likely when the set triggers were installed as they appear to be factory work. Provenance: The Wayne Connor Collection
Very fine as professionally restored overall, retains 99% plus of the high polish blue finish and 95% plus of the vibrant case colors with a few scattered very light handling marks. The wood is also very fine with only the slightest handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. A very attractive antique special order Winchester deluxe Model 1894!
