Measuring 14 3/4 inches overall, with a 10 inch blade showing a hollow ground diamond cross-section, needle point tip, and an etched game scene on each side, with a bear being pounced on by a dog on one side, and a bear confronting a stag on the other. The hilt is constructed from antique ivory or bone, with ribbing and border patterns on the crossguard, geometric designs on the disc pommel, and a smooth hexagonal grip section. The scabbard is of similar construction, with the face almost entirely covered with an elaborate scene of two spearmen and a pack of seven hunting dogs trying to take down a bear. Provenance: The Dr. Gerald Klaz Collection
Fine overall. The lade shows a mixed gray patina with patches of oxidization, a small amount of pitting, and good detail in the decoration. The furniture shows some minor age cracks and a few small chips, with attractive color and grain and well executed decoration.
