The third year of Mauser Luger production during the build-up to WWII, in 1936 the Germans discarded the letter code system and went back to just stamping the plain date on the chamber. Blade front and notch rear sights, "1936" on the chamber, "S/42" on the toggle link, "droop-wing eagle/63" proofs on the extension and barrel and "eagle" firing proofs on the barrel, extension, and breechblock. Straw finished small parts, niter blue springs, pins and screws, and a nickel-finished magazine with alloy base. Minus the grips, numbers are matching overall, including on both of the included magazines (one bearing the proper "+" spare magazine mark). Includes a "1936" dated brown leather holster, marked "WaA234" on the back and hand-marked "Gordon D Shafer" on the flap, with a takedown tool. An included capture certificate identified this pistol by serial number (minus suffix) to a Gordon D. Shafer of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 11th Regiment, 5th Division. Shafer's exact wartime activities are unrecorded, but 11th Regiment earned battle honors for Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe during World War II. Very fine, with 75% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown patina, bright edge wear and light handling marks. The grips are fine, with a mended chip near the safety and some light dents, and the holster is good with some minor scuffing and cracking. Mechanically excellent.
