Description:

Originally manufactured in "First Issue" configuration, like many German Navy Luger pistols this example was reconfigured, with the safety altered to the "army" pattern. The lower safety position has been ground out, and a new "Gesichert" added to the upper position. Blade front and two-position notch rear sights, undated chamber, with a set of "crown" firing proofs on the barrel, extension and breechblock, two "crown/M" stamps on the left side of the receiver and one on the underside of the barrel. "GELADEN" is marked on the extractor, with straw finished small parts, a pair of checkered grips, and a nickel finished magazine with an unmarked hardwood base. The backstrap is stamped "W.W./868" below the grip safety, suggesting issue from a naval depot in Wilhelmshaven. Provenance: The Paul Crockett Jr. Collection

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 75% of the arsenal refurbished blue finish, showing a mixed gray patina around the altered safety markings and on the gripstraps, bright edge wear, and scattered spotting and handling marks overall. The straw parts are turning gray, with traces of bright color on the trigger. The grips are fine, with some dings on the crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
