Manufactured in 1920, this is an outstanding example of a first year production Savage Model 1917 pistol. It has the standard two-line address, patent date, and caliber marking on top of the barrel extension. It is fitted with standard blade and notch sights, and a pair of checkered hard rubber grips with Savage logos. The included factory letter lists a shipment date of 1 June 1920 to Rise and Miller, for which no address was listed. Provenance: The Bailey Brower, Jr. Collection, author of “Savage Pistols”
Excellent, retains 98% plus of the original blue finish with some very light edge wear and a minuscule patch of light surface oxidation visible on the right front of the frame. The grips are also excellent with a few scattered light handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
