This exceptional Colt Single Action Army revolver was manufactured in 1908. The revolver has the Colt high polish, commercial, blue finish on the barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame, loading gate and hammer are casehardened. The special order, one-piece, walnut grip is oil finished. The revolver has the smokeless powder frame introduced in 1892, oval ejector rod head and second style hammer with bordered, knurling on the spur. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." in one line. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped: "45 COLT". The caliber designation "45" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel just ahead of the frame. The later production replacement cylinder has the "Rampant Colt" trademark stamped on the rear face between the chambers. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt "Three-Date/Two-Line" patent markings followed by the encircled Rampant Colt trademark. The inside of the loading gate and internal rear of frame are both stamped with the assembly number "1228". The left front trigger guard bow is stamped with the Colt "Triangle/VP" proof mark, and the left rear is stamped with "W" assembler's mark. An "&" factory rework style mark is stamped in the hammer well. The full serial number is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. All of the visible serial numbers match.

Very fine. The revolver retains 90% plus of the factory blue and casehardened finish. Wear on the blue components is limited to some scratches and light handling marks of the left side of the barrel, light edge wear on the trigger guard and some thinning on the back strap. The hammer and frame have vivid case colors. The screws have most of the fire blue finish. The replacement grip is also very fine with nearly all of the oil finish; wear is limited to a few very minor handling marks - primarily on the butt. All of the markings are crisp. Mechanically excellent. This is an exceptional example of a 1908 production Colt Single Action Army revolver.
