Description:

This is a beautiful example of an original commercial contract Krieghoff Luger that was manufactured in 1940. These Krieghoff Lugers originally started out as Luftwaffe contract pistols that were rejected by the Luftwaffe and then resold on the commercial market. These are not in a separate serial number range but are instead intermixed right in the military contract serial number range. They will show Luftwaffe acceptance proofs intermixed with the Krieghoff rejection proofs and commercial proofs. It is estimated that less than 50 of this series were actually manufactured. These Krieghoff Lugers still show the unusually high quality of the fit and finish on the various parts. The chamber area is blank, and it has the late production C-2 style Krieghoff toggle marking as shown on page 83 of the "Krieghoff Parabellum". The right of the frame rail has a partial "Luftwaffe Eagle/2" acceptance proof that was partially removed (by the Krieghoff factory) with the five-pointed Krieghoff rejection star directly above on the barrel extension. The left of the barrel extension, left frame rail, underside of the barrel and top of the breech block have the "crown/N" commercial proof applied after being rejected by the Luftwaffe. This Luger is numbered in the commercial manner with the full serial number on the front of the frame and left of the barrel extension, the last two digits of the serial number stamped on the underside of the toggles, left of the breech block, back side of the side plate, safety, and the remaining small parts unnumbered, with some of the parts "Luftwaffe Eagle/2" acceptance proofed. The replacement blue finished magazine is numbered "5803/V" on the aluminum base. It has the early style brown checkered plastic grips with the coarse checkering and narrow border.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains 85% plus original blue finish with minor edge and high spot wear overall and some mild wear on either side of the muzzle with some patches of moderate pitting. 75% original straw colors remain on the small parts. The grips are excellent with crisp checkering and a few small nicks. Mechanically excellent. A very fine example of a very scarce Krieghoff commercial Luger for the serious Luger collector.
