Description:

This is a scarce 1908 pre-war German Navy contract Luger manufactured by DWM. These can be distinguished by several features, primarily in that the grip safety was eliminated and it has the second model safety that is in the up position, with no date on the side of the frame. Approximately 8500 in total were produced, and they all fall into the "b" serial number suffix range. The top of the chamber is blank, and the top of the toggle is marked "DWM". The right side of the barrel extension is blank, and the left side, bottom and side of the barrel have the small "Crown" proof along with the correct "Crown/M" Naval acceptance proof. The rear grip strap is marked "W.K./9856", indicating it was issued from the dockyard at Kiel. The front of the frame and bottom of the barrel have the full serial number and letter "b" suffix. It has the correct, later style flat checkered toggles, second model safety that is in the upper position and the two-position naval rear sight. The magazine has the correct nickel plated body and the wooden base with concentric circles that is stamped with "Crown/M" Navy proof and the serial number on the base.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the faded original blue finish remaining overall with some light thinning and browning on the length of the barrel, and edge and high spot wear overall and on the side plate hump. The front grip strap has more generalized wear with a 1/4 to 1/2 inch pitted area just above the mid-line that runs from side to side. The grips are in fine condition showing general light wear overall with nice diamonds with a couple of minor flat spots behind the magazine release button. The pistol retains 90% of the refinished straw colors on the safety lever, 75% original on the balance of parts. Matching numbers on all the parts, including the professionally renumbered to match correct style magazine. Mechanically excellent.
