Manufactured in 1850, this is a scarce late variation of the Colt Model 1848 Baby Dragoon revolver with a loading lever, rectangular cylinder stops and stagecoach holdup scene on the cylinder. These revolvers were in the serial number range of approximately 11600 to 15500 and are essentially the transition from the Baby Dragoon to the Model 1849 Pocket. The top barrel flat is marked "-ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW YORK CITY-." The frame has the small "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side of the frame. Matching numbers are found on the loading lever, barrel, frame, grip straps, cylinder, arbor pin, and grip. The replacement wedge is numbered "28413."

Very good plus with gray and brown patina on the iron, 80% original silver plating on the grip straps with attractive aged patina on both the silver and exposed brass, general mild overall wear, some slight pitting, and a small sliver of brass absent at the right side of the front trigger guard screw (see photo). The grip is fine and has strong original varnish, some nice figure, mild lower edge wear, a few minor chips, and hammering marks. Mechanically excellent.
