Description:

This mid-19th century target rifle by John Donaghy of Amsterdam has gold bands at the muzzle and breech, a windage adjustable globe front sight, "JOHN DONAGHY AMSTERDAM" signed on the rib, "John Donaghy Amsterdam" signed in a banner on the lock, ornate scroll engraving, adjustable double set triggers, an adjustable rear peep sight (disk absent), extended palm rest trigger guard, and nearly full-length stock with horn forend cap, relief scroll carving and checkering on the wrist, additional scroll carving behind the large cheekpiece, and an iron buttplate with a single long hook.

Rating Definition:

Very good with bright gold inlaid bands, a mix of faded original finish and dark brown patina throughout, mild oxidation, repaired hammer, and general moderate age and storage related wear. The stock is also very good and has some loss on the forend cap, numerous scratches and dings, mostly crisp checkering and carving, and a few chips. The lock needs work (not locking up at half or full-cock). The set triggers are mechanically fine.
