Around 6,500 Model 1862 Police and Pocket Navy revolvers were assembled by Colt c. 1873-1875 using a combination of available percussion revolver components and newly manufactured parts in .38 rimfire and .38 centerfire. They are equipped with ejectors and loading gates. The barrel's loading lever slot was filled, and the ejector is fitted along the right side. A recoil plate and centerfire hammer were fitted to the frame. The markings remain typical of the '62 Police. The loading gate has assembly number "1862" (coincidentally the year of the model). The back of the cylinder has "2" inverted along with a "3" and "39." "1738" is on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, and butt.

Very fine. Aside from a strip of plating loss down the back strap, 90% plus of the original nickel plating remains. The revolver has mild dings and scratches and fairly minor overall wear. The grip is also very fine and has attractive natural color and grain, mild age cracks visible at the butt, and mild handling wear. Mechanically fine. This is definitely a very solid and attractive Colt Model 1862 Police revolver in desirable .38 centerfire.
