Description:

The Lawrence was a United States Niagara Class Brig which was commissioned early in August, 1813. The ship was named after Captain James Lawrence who had died earlier that year. Under the command of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry the ship served as the flagship for the United States Navy during the Battle of Lake Erie on September 10, 1813. Three hours into the battle, the Lawrence was deemed sunk, and Perry was taken by row boat to the sister ship Niagara where he fought until British surrender. The ship was fully sunk in 1815 as an act of preserving the hull. In 1875 the remnants of the ship were brought to the surface, cut into sections, and sent to Philadelphia to be displayed at the 1876 Centennial Exhibition. Following the exhibition, the wood was going to be cut into portions and sold; however, a fire broke out and the building and remains of the ship, were entirely lost. Included with the ship is a display table measuring 44x18x27 inches with protective glass to put over the ship and a plaque stating a completion date of December 6, 1982. This is a museum quality wooden ship model.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with limited storage and handling marks as well as a couple popped rigging lines. The table and glass are excellent with limited storage and handling marks.
