Description:

Manufactured in the mid-late 1700s, this backsword is typical of those favored by Scottish highlanders of the period, including the Highland regiments of the British army. The blade measures 29 3/4 inches with one full edge and a short false edge near the tip. It has a single deep fuller just below the spine. It measures approximately 36 inches overall. The hilt is of the fairly simple and typical "Glasgow type", with inner and outer shields pierced with triangle variations and small circles, looped forward guard, and pierced simple side guards. It has a narrow rolled wrist guard. The pommel is a tall cone with visibly peened tang. The grip is leather and brass wire wrapped.

Rating Definition:

Good, the blade mostly a grey patina with mild pitting throughout and some mild edge/point erosion. The guard is also fine showing grey patina and some light pitting. The grip is very good with moderate wear and some minor flaking of the leather.
