Description:

Introduced in the 1880s, the Enfield was accepted by both the British Army and the North-West Mounted Police of Canada. Built around a hinged receiver, the Enfield auto-ejects empty casings on opening but had to be reloaded one round at a time via loading gate. It would be phased out of military service about 1898 and stayed in law enforcement use as late as 1911. The right of the frame is dated "1882" and there are small "crown/VR" proofs on various parts, as well as a "(broad arrow)/WD" War Department proof on the left side of the frame. There are opposing broad arrow "out of service" proofs on the left of the frame and barrel lug. It is fitted with blade and top strap groove sights, a smooth walnut grip, and a lanyard loop on the butt.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 70% of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to a smooth grey patina, most noticeably on the grip straps and in the form of holster wear. The grip is also fine with minor dings and scratches scattered throughout and a hairline crack near the butt. Mechanically excellent.
