Description:

One of approximately 8,000 manufactured, these were the standard pre-World War I Navy Luger issued to the Imperial German Navy all the way through World War I and even into the Weimar era. This first issue Navy 1906 Luger has the desirable 6 inch Navy barrel, two-position 100-200 meter Navy rear sight, and grip safety. The majority of these first issue Navy Lugers had their safety markings modified as seen on this example, with "GESICHERT" added in the top position from its original location in the lower position (still visible but faint). The top of the chamber area is undated, and the standard "DWM" logo is marked on the front toggle. The underside of the barrel is marked with a "(crown)/M" acceptance proof and crown firing proof on the left. The barrel extension has a crown firing proof followed by double "(crown)/M" acceptance proof marks. Crown proof mark also located on the breech block. Standard military style serial number placement with "6331" marked on the underside of the barrel and front of the frame. Various small parts have matching last two digits of the serial number including the barrel extension and grip panels. "W.D./182." unit marking on the rear grip strap, indicating issue through Werft Danzig, an Imperial Navy shipyard and a major nerve center for Imperial German Naval operations. The pistol is fitted with a correct pre-war Navy type magazine with nickel plated body and walnut base with concentric circles and "W.D. 193." marked on the bottom. Includes a board shoulder stock with "7954/a" marked on the iron attaching area and "(crown)/M" navy mark on the walnut stock and iron disc, a black leather holster and suspension rig, black leather double magazine pouch and combination tool.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 80% arsenal refurbished blue finish with scattered patches of light pitting (under the finish). 50% straw colors visible on the small parts. Grips are very fine with a few small nicks in the diamond panels and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Included board stock is fine with refinished blue finish visible on the attaching iron, and some light handling marks and scratches in the wood with defined edges. Holster, suspension rig and double magazine pouch are fine with some areas of light age related cracking.
