This is one of approximately 8,000 Lugers sold on contract with Finland in the 1920s, originally designated the M/23 as used by the Finnish Army in 7.65mm Luger, with this example period Finnish rebarreled and chambered for use with 9mm Luger (parabellum) ammunition; redesignated the M/08. Due to the Treaty of Versailles, DWM was not allowed to produce guns chambered in military calibers (9mm), so these were originally delivered in 7.65mm. This example is equipped with a Finnish Tikka manufactured barrel chambered for 9mm, installed to replace its previous worn 7.65mm barrel, possibly during the Continuation War/World War II era or after; with a tall fixed blade front sight, and numbered to match the pistol. A circular brass disc marked "HamRjP/5768" is affixed to the right grip panel. The chamber is unmarked. Fixed sights, "DWM" monogram on the front toggle, boxed "SA" Finnish Army property mark and "crown/N" proof on the left of the barrel extension, the full matching serial number located on the front of the frame and underside of the barrel, the last two matching digits of the serial number marked in the commercial manner on various components, with checkered walnut grip panels marked "44" on the underside of the left panel and unnumbered under the right panel, and nickel plated magazine with boxed "SA" Finnish Army property mark and "5595" on the walnut base. "C.A.I." import mark on the underside of the barrel. Includes a walnut board shoulder stock with a boxed "SA" Finnish Army property stamp in the wood with "23" and "1915" marked on the attaching iron.

Fine, retains 80% arsenal rebarreled/refurbished blue finish with some light edge wear and handling marks, and sharp markings and edges in the metal. Grips are very good with moderate wear overall and otherwise clear checkering. Mechanically excellent. Included stock is fine with some scattered light dents and scratches, and crisp markings. Note: this pistol and stock combination is noted in the 2018 edition of the ATF C&R List as NFA exempt.
