The Super-Fox was developed in 1922 as a collaboration with Western Cartridge Company for their revolutionary Super X shotshells. John Olin developed the new cartridges for his company, along with Charles Askins, Sr., the best known gun writer in the country at the time. While testing the cartridges, they discovered that they performed best through an A.H. Fox shotgun that had been bored out by Philadelphia gunsmith Burt Becker. Becker then worked with Fox to develop what would come to be known as the Super-Fox. Only some 300 total of these Super-Fox guns were built, 240 of which were chambered in 12 gauge, making this 20 gauge gun extremely rare with at most 60 built. According to McIntosh's "A.H. Fox": the Finest Gun in the World", this was the third 20 gauge Super-Fox manufactured and it was delivered on June 9th, 1924. Blued Chromox Fluid Compressed steel barrels with a single steel bead sight on the matted concave solid rib, standard Fox barrel markings, and chambers measured 2 3/4 inches with automatic ejectors. The action bears the standard light border engraving with "ANSLEY H. FOX" marked on either side. The gun features double triggers and a tang mounted automatic safety switch. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with lightly engraved fittings and round knob pistol grip stock with a leather faced red rubber recoil pad. Includes a letter from Jay Schachter of Vintage Firearms Inc. attesting to the originality of the configuration as well as a full restoration job carried out by Doug Turnbull Restorations. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .626/.627 inches; choke constriction .035/.036 inches; minimum wall thickness .040/.041 inches; 1 9/16 inch drop at comb; 2 7/8 inch drop at heel; 14 3/4 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 12 oz.

Very fine as professionally restored by Doug Turnbull Restorations, retaining 99% blue and casehardened finishes with minor handling evidence. The wood is also very fine with a few minor scratches, a flake forming at the rear of the forend, a tiny chip at the front right of the forend, and sharp recut checkering. Mechanically excellent.
