A relatively late entry to the field of Vietnam-era M16 makers, the Hydra-Matic Division of General Motors, much like its predecessors in the Inland and Guide Lamp Divisions, added military weaponry to the production schedule alongside automatic transmission hardware. Using a Technical Data Package purchased from Colt by the DoD, Hydra-Matic completed two contracts for the military. While the number made was large, very few ever rotated out into civilian hands; most were either kept in U.S. inventory, seconded to allied/friendly nations as military aid, or fed to the shredder. This example appears to be an original Hydra-Matic lower receiver completed with parts from other sources. Post front and two leaf adjustable rear sights, with a three prong flash hider and bayonet lug on the "4T663 MP CHROME BORE" marked barrel, "CH" marked upper receiver with short casing deflector and oval forward assist, triangular handguard, checkered pistol grip, and a fixed buttstock with "25" in yellow stencil on the left and a black nylon sling. The receiver is fitted with a right handed "SAFE"/"SEMI"/"AUTO" selector, with "HYDRA-MATIC DIV./G.M. CORP./U.S.A./PROPERTY/OF U.S. GOVT./M16A1" on the left side of the magazine well over the caliber and serial number. The fire control group is in proper semi/full configuration, with a "C" marked full auto bolt carrier, "MPC" marked bolt head, and a chrome firing pin. Magazine absent.

Very fine, with 75% mixed refurbished matte black finish, showing mild scuffing and wear overall, with tool marks on and around the front sight base pins and some high edge wear. The furniture is very fine, with mild scratches and scuffs. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
