Description:

Manufactured c. 1915-1917, this unique pistol has been professionally modified to a demonstrative cutaway configuration. This specific pistol is pictured and described on p. 106 and 152 of "Savage Pistols" by Bailey Brower, Jr. The book states on p. 152 that this cutaway was made by Gale Morgan. There are 13 cutout viewing ports on the left side and six on the right, all of which allow for an excellent view of the internal workings of the Model 1915 pistol. It is unknown whether any factory made cutaways of this model of pistol exist due to the short production life of the model, making any such examples exceptionally rare. This pistol may be the closest example to a factory cutaway in existence. It has standard markings (some of which have been obscured/removed due to the viewing ports) including the Savage trademark on the left of the frame. It is fitted with a pair of checkered hard rubber grips with Savage logos at the center. Provenance: The Bailey Brower, Jr. Collection, author of “Savage Pistols”

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally modified to cutaway configuration, retaining 85% plus of the original blue finish on the areas not cut away and the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina. The very fine grips have two large viewing ports on the left and a small one on the right and otherwise a few scattered light handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically fine as a cutaway for demonstration purposes.
