Manufactured from 1903 to 1922. This specific rifle is pictured and described on p. 216 of "Savage Pistols" by Bailey Brower, Jr., where it is used as an example of high quality Savage factory engraving. Both sides of the casehardened receiver on this rifle feature masterfully executed diamonds of rosette and floral scroll engraving, as well as some fine line borders. The standard two-line Savage address and patents dates are marked on the top barrel flat, caliber marking at the breech, and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The octagon barrel is fitted with beaded blade front and elevation adjustable notch rear sights, with a Lyman 2B peep sight mounted on the upper tang. It is mounted with an 11-groove slide handle and a finely figured, deluxe, leaf-pattern checkered pistol grip stock with a crescent buttplate. Exceptionally fine, retains 99% of the professionally restored blue finish and 95% plus of the vibrant case colors with the balance having thinned to a smooth grey patina and crisp engraving overall. The wood is very fine with a few scattered light handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
