Documented New Jersey Contract John Miles Flintlock Musket with Regimental Markings - NSN, 69 cal., 44 inch round bbl., brown finish, walnut stock.
Manufactured c. 1808-1809. John Miles New Jersey state contract muskets are described on pages 237- 242 of George D. Moller’s book “American Military Shoulder Arms, Volume II”, with the lock of this
exact musket photographed at the top of page 240 and the top of the barrel photographed on page 241. “67” over “BURLt C 3d REGt 2d B” marked on top of the barrel at the breech which identifies this musket as number 67 of the Second Battalion of the Third Regiment of the Burlington County Brigade. “MILES/PHILAD” marked at the tail of the lock. “GDM” (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes wood tampion.
CONDITION: Good, with dark brown patina on the barrel with scattered light to mild
pitting, and the lock is bright as lightly cleaned with mostly clear markings and some scattered moderate
pitting. Stock is very good with some light scratches, chips, and some small hairline cracks visible at the edges. Mechanically fine.

Scarce Documented Eli Whitney First Connecticut State Contract Flintlock Musket with Bayonet - NSN, 69 cal., 42 inch round bbl., bright finish,
walnut stock. Eli Whitney first Connecticut contract muskets are described on pages 205-207 of George D. Moller’s book “American Military Shoulder Arms, Volume II”, with this exact musket photographed on page 206. The book states, “Sometime prior
to May 1804, Eli Whitney contracted with Captain Nathaniel Terry to furnish 112 muskets with bayonets at $15 each... The muskets were delivered over a six-year period ending in May 1810. Except for their markings, these muskets are generally similar to Whitney’s 1798
(Type III) U.S. contract muskets...” Features include a bayonet stud on top, brass blade front sight on the rear strap of the front barrel band, “eagle/NEW HAVEN” marked at the center of the lock, “CONNECTICUT” marked on the side plate. “GDM” (George
D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes socket bayonet, leather sling, and wood tampion. CONDITION: Very good with dark brown patina overall and some light pitting. Stock is also very good with scattered scratches, handling marks, and a repaired crack underneath the belly. Mechanically excellent. Included bayonet is matching condition of the gun. Documented Ethan Stillman 1808 Connecticut State Contract Flintlock Musket with Bayonet - NSN, 69 cal., 42 inch round bbl., bright finish,
walnut stock. This musket is one of around 1,885 believed delivered under a 3,500 gun contract with the state of Connecticut by Ethan Stillman of Burlington, Connecticut, based on the Springfield “Model 1795”
Charleville pattern muskets. They are often referred to by collectors as Model 1808s. Ethan Stillman 1808 contract muskets are described on pages 204-205 of George D. Moller’s book “American Military Shoulder Arms, Volume II”, with this exact musket photographed on page 205. The left of the barrel at the breech is marked with two oval proofs containing what is attributed as three clusters of grapes as in the Connecticut state seal. Marked “S.CT./E. STILLMAN” at the center of the lock. “GDM” (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock.
Estimate: 2,500 - 4,000
     Includes socket bayonet, leather sling, and wood tampion.
CONDITION: Very good with mild flash pitting, a crack on the right of the bottom jaw, and scattered light surface oxidation and pitting. Stock is also very good with scattered scratches
and dents and an absent sliver on the right of the barrel tang. Mechanically fine. Included bayonet is in matching condition.

Documented Eli Whitney Second/Third Connecticut State Contract Flintlock Musket with Bayonet - NSN, 69 cal., 42 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. Eli Whitney second and third Connecticut
contract muskets are described on pages 207-208 of George D. Moller’s book “American Military Shoulder Arms, Volume II”, with this exact musket photographed on both pages. The book states, “In February 1810, Whitney contracted with Connecticut to furnish 700 muskets
at $12.50 each. These muskets were delivered by May 11, 1811. In May 1811, Whitney again contracted to provide another 700 muskets. These muskets were delivered in 1812. Their configuration was the same as for the muskets delivered by Whitney under his New York
state contract... The stock’s left breech flat is stamped with the Connecticut state shield, which contains three clusters of grapes [faint on this example].” Features include a bayonet stud on top, brass blade front sight on the rear part of the front barrel
band, and “eagle/NEW HAVEN” marked at the center of the lock. “GDM” (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes socket bayonet, leather sling, and wood tampion. CONDITION: Very good with dark brown patina overall, mild flash pitting at the breech, and scattered mild
dings on the rear of the barrel. Stock is also very good with numerous scattered moderate pressure dents on
left side of buttstock, scratches and chips. Mechanically fine. Included bayonet is fine. Provenance: The George Moller Collection. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750
