Engraved and Silver Accented Rieger of Munich Double Barrel Percussion Shotgun - Serial no. 3025, 20 gauge, 29 3/4 inch solid rib bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. Johan Rieger was an active gun maker in Munich from 1843 to 1855. We previously sold another very similar double barrel sporting gun by Rieger that was made for Ludwig II of Bavaria. The rib has “RIEGER IN MUNCHEN” inlaid in silver and surrounded by silver inlaid scrollwork. The breech also has silver bands/key patterns. The locks, breech ends of the barrels, and much of the
 furniture have engraved scrolls. The locks also have rotating hammer stalls/safeties. The stock has checkering with scallop pattern borders as well as foliage carved around the upper tang,
a wooden trigger guard with scroll tail, relief scroll carving behind the prominent cheek rest, and a plain bare butt with only a heel plate which is marked “3025.” CONDITION: Fine with light patina forming on the otherwise bright cleaned metal, attractive contrasting aged patina on the silver, and general minor wear. The stock is also fine and has distinct checkering, a few minor chips, and scattered scrapes and dings. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,750 - 4,000

Silver Inlaid, Engraved, and Carved G.M. Funck Percussion Side by Side Shotgun - NSN, 28 gauge, 32 inch
          solid rib bbl., bright/blue finish, walnut stock. “Fürst/Löwenstein/seinem/G. Truchsess” (Prince/Löwenstein/his/G. Steward) is marked on the German silver escutcheon on the top of the wrist. The prince would be either Prince Adolf or Prince Wilhelm of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg. It has a bead front sight, silver banded breech, eagle or similar birds for hammers,
“G.M. Funck” in silver inlay on the right lock, “in Suhl” in silver inlay on the left lock, scroll and border engraving, a dog and bird scene on the trigger guard bow, checkered forend and wrist, patch box, cheek rest, and raised relief carved fox and rabbit scene with detailed foliage and textured background on the left side of the butt. CONDITION: Fine with 30% period blue remaining on the trigger guard and buttplate heel, aged patina on the silver, a mix of light gray and brown patina throughout, some minor oxidation, what appears to be a piece of metal imbedded into the ramrod entry ferrule, a few scratches, and general mild wear. The wood is also fine and has mildly worn checkering, a screw stabilized crack below the right lock, and general minor scratches and pressure marks. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500
