  LOT 510
Desirable World War II Mauser K98 Bolt Action High Turret Sniper Rifle
with Scope and Ammo Pouch - Serial no. 7949l, 8 mm cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish,
laminate stock. In use from 1939 through 1945, the “high turret” sniper was one of the most effective sniper weapons
in the German arsenal; ways were found to make less expensive snipers, but they never introduced a better model during the war.
Blade front and tangent rear sights, with the scope mounts screwed and welded to the receiver. “Eagle/135” proofs are present on the barrel, receiver (double struck, factory
error), and the rear scope block, with “Mod. 98” on the receiver wall and a matching number on the phosphate finish bolt handle. The cocking piece assembly is an unnumbered, field armorer
replacement. The barrel bands (milled front and stamped rear) are unnumbered, and both the trigger guard and floorplate are stamped with “byf” markings. The smooth laminate pistol grip stock is
fitted with a brown leather sling and a cupped steel buttplate proofed “WaA642” over “dwc”. The front scope ring is numbered to match the rifle, with “50758” on the left side of the adjustment base, “AJACK 4x90” on the right, with sight-through bases and a three-post reticle. Also included is a brown pig skin ammo pouch with 6 clips (30 rounds) of ammunition.
CONDITION: Fine, with 70% of the original blue finish, showing areas of gray/brown patina, mild oxidization, and scattered handling marks. The stock is sanded and refinished, with some mild dings and dents.
The sling is cracked and torn. The scope shows mild external wear, with the reticle solid and the optics clear. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 5,500 - 8,500
