Exceptional DWM 1906 Commercial Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol in Scarce 9 m/m Caliber - Serial no. 64670, 9 mm cal., 4 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. This is
an exceptional, high condition, mid-production example of a early DWM model 1906 Commercial Luger. This series of Luger pistol was one of the very first commercial Luger manufactured by the DWM
factory and is a primary piece in any early Luger collection. There were only approximately 4,000 ever
manufactured for commercial sales with this one being chambered in the very rare and desirable “9mm
Luger” caliber. This caliber was usually reserved only for military contracts. Since this is an early 1906 Commercial
model it correctly has the unmarked/blank chamber area with the front toggle marked with the “DWM” logo. It is correctly numbered in the commercial
manner with only the major serial number (64670) stamped on the front of the frame and underside of the barrel, with the last two digits of the serial number (70) stamped on the various other smaller parts. It has the standard Commercial “crown/N” proofmark on the left side of the barrel extension, the underside of the barrel above the serial number, the breechblock and front toggle. It has the standard first pattern safety with the lower area of the rear frame polished and unmarked
with the extractor correctly marked “GELADEN”. It is fitted with the correct, fully checkered walnut grips. These early commercial Lugers have all hand fitted parts with a beautiful rust blued finish overall with finely polished and straw colored small parts to include the trigger, take down lever, ejector and magazine release button. It is complete
with one original early commercial magazine that has a tin plated magazine markings: “Cal 9 m/m”.
CONDITION: Excellent plus. The pistol retains 98% plus original, high quality blue finish with some minor muzzle and high edge wear. Nearly 97% of the
original straw color remains on the small components. The grips are also excellent with a couple mild bruises in the otherwise sharp checkering. The
markings are sharp. Mechanically excellent. One will have difficulty locating a better correct original example of this much sought after Luger variation! (Now is your opportunity!)
Estimate: 8,000 - 14,000
matching partial serial number “88” is marked on the takedown lever, bottom of the side plate and rear toggle link. The small components are finished in straw, and the pistol is fitted with checkered walnut grips. CONDITION: Very fine. The pistol retains 75% original blue finish with some scattered minor thinning, muzzle and high edge wear, some minor pitting and spotting on the front left side of the barrel. 50% of the original straw colors remain on the small components. The grips are very good with some minor bruising and a few minor dings and handling marks. The barrel proofs are a bit weak, otherwise the markings are clear. The action is fine. A rare Commercial Model 1902 “Fat Barrel” Luger for the advanced Luger collector. Estimate: 5,500 - 8,500
 LOT 513
Rare 1902 Commercial DWM “Fat Barrel” Luger Semi- Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 23188, 9 mm Luger cal., 4 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. This is a very fine example of a rare early commercial contract Model 1902 “Fat Barrel” Luger. This is a very scarce variation that was intermixed with the standard 1902 production Lugers, and it is estimated that only about 600 were produced in total. The 1902 Lugers were manufactured in specific serial number ranges, 22300 to 22400 and 22900 to 23500, and this pistol falls into the later production group, manufactured just prior to the 1902 Danzig test Lugers and the cartridge counter models. The Model 1902 was the first Luger chambered for the 9 mm cartridge with a 4 inch barrel and was generally intended for sales outside of Germany. The top of the chamber is blank, the toggle has the DWM logo, the right side of the barrel extension is unmarked and the left side has the early commercial “crown/B” and “crown/U” proofs. The bottom of the barrel has the Commercial “crown/B”, “crown/U” and “crown/G” proofs along with the serial number, and the front of the frame is marked “GERMANY” under the serial number indicating sale outside
of Germany. It has the early recessed breech bolt, unmarked extractor, both the grip and thumb s the early dished toggles. The thumb safety functions in the upward position, and the lower safety
lever area is polished bright. The magazine is the correct early wooden base version. The
body with
the walnut base. The base is correctly stamped in script
