LOT 524 Excellent World War II German Berlin-Lubecker “duv 43” Code G41 Semi-Automatic Rifle - Serial no. 2886h, 8 mm cal., 22 inch round bbl., blue finish, laminate stock. Manufactured in 1943 before the introduction of the G43 rifle, the G41 was one of the only production model semi-automatic rifles to use the “gas trap” system as opposed to the gas port used on the G43 which has become the de-facto standard for gas-operated weaponry from World War II up through the modern day. The barrel has the standard blade front and tangent rear sights, the model and manufacturer markings on the left side of the finely machined receiver, machined metal dust cover, and a machined bolt carrier with a solid cocking knob, and a left side mounted bolt catch. Fitted with a smooth laminated pistol grip stock, with a double “eagle/Waffenamt” proof on the right side, resin handguard and a cupped stamped steel buttplate. Matching numbers present on the gas system, bolt carrier, dust cover, magazine, trigger guard and buttstock. CONDITION: Excellent, with 95% plus of the original blue finish, showing some rough spots on the magazine and front barrel band, dings on the dust cover, a few areas of gray patina and mild handling marks. The stock is also excellent, with crisp original markings, some scattered dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. One will look a long time to find a finer example! Estimate: 8,500 - 13,000
LOT 525
Historic World War II 11th Armored War Trophy Presentation Plaque, Steyr “bnz45” Code 98K Bolt Action Rifle, “Kriegsmodell” Configuration, with Historic 11th Armored War Trophy Presentation Plaque - Serial no. 2585t, 8 mm cal., 24 inch round bbl., phosphate/blue finish, laminate stock. Introduced late in WWII, the “Kriegsmodell” (War Model) 98k was designed for easier and faster production, increasing the number of stamped components while eliminating some features. This particular 98 was produced in the “t” suffix range, placing it very late in the war. Fitted with a hooded blade front and tangent rear sight, with “Mod.98/bnz45” on the receiver ring. Matching numbers are present on the bolt. Smooth pistol grip stock with a laminated hand guard and a cupped steel buttplate. The proof stamps on the right side of the stock are partially covered by a brass plaque, which is engraved “CAPTURED BY/11th ARMORED/AT/LINZ, AUSTRIA/1945/FROM JOHNNY TO AL”. Having arrived at Normandy in December of 1944, the 11th Armored Division fought it’s way through Belgium, through Germany, and into Austria, liberating the Mauthausen Concentration Camp 4 days prior to the formal end of the war in Europe. To get to Mauthausen, as well as connect with the Soviet Army, the 11th needed to fight their way past Linz; while not specifically noted, this rifle was likely taken as a trophy during the advance. Neither Johnny nor Al have been positively identified. CONDITION: Excellent, with 90% plus original phosphate finish, showing some areas of brown or lighter gray patina, mild spotting and light handling marks. The blued bolt components retain 85% of the original finish, showing bright wear and mild handling marks. The stock is very fine, with some dents and scuffs. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 5,000 - 7,500
