Letter -A) Colt Single Action Army Revolver - Serial
no. 46829SA, 45 LC cal., 5 1/2 inch round bbl., nickel
finish, smooth grips. The included factory letter lists
these two revolvers as having 5 1/2 inch barrels
chambered in .45 Long Colt with nickel finish and wood
grips as well as Class “C” engraving and consecutive
serial numbers when shipped to West Hills Sport Shop in Corapolis, Pennsylvania on July 10, 1968. The letter also remarks that there were a total of four consecutive revolvers in this shipment. William H. Mains’ signature “Buffalo (grade)” stamp can be found on the front of the frame beneath the cylinder pin on both revolvers. On page 135 of The Post-War Colt Single Action Army: 1955-1975 Wilkerson points out that Mains only engraved one set of four consecutively serialized Single Action Army revolvers in his career at Colt, making this half of that set. Both revolvers include an unmarked Colt Stagecoach box. CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% plus original nickel finish with limited handling marks
and crisp engraving. Mechanically excellent. Box is good with storage and handling marks and some peeling. B) Colt Single Action Army Revolver - Serial no. 46830SA, 45 LC cal., 5 1/2 inch round bbl., nickel finish, smooth grips. See “A.”
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% plus original nickel finish with limited handling marks and crisp engraving. Mechanically excellent. Box is finewith storage and handling marks. An attractive consecutively serialized set of William Mains factory engraved Colt SAA’s.
