No. 5 Texas Holster Model Paterson
LOT 1169
Rare and Highly Desirable Colt “Texas Paterson” Holster Model Paterson Revolver No. 5 with Herb Glass Jr. Letter - Serial no. 950, 36 cal., 5 Inch bbl., Blue finish, varnished walnut grips. Rare and desirable example of a fine Colt “Texas Paterson” Holster Model Revolver No. 5 with five-inch barrel. This ‘Model B’Texas Paterson lacks the three-piece factory loading lever found on very late production revolvers and has a round back, five-shot cylinder, double curved, straight sided, barrel lug, hammer with smooth spur and flared butt and walnut grips. The barrel has a German silver front sight blade and the hammer has a sighting notch. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped with the legend: “- Patent Arms, M’g. Co. Paterson, NJ.- Colt’s Pt. - “ with the ‘snake and star’ motif at the breech end. Though many believe the barrel has been shortened to five-inches, it is the writers belief that this revolver was once a two barrel set with the other barrel being much longer. On page 33 of The Book of Colt Firearms by R.L. Wilson, he states “Barrels: Standard lengths were 7 1/2” and 9”; but 4”, 5”, 6”, and 12” barrels are also known...” The front sight blade is
mounted on the “Colt’s Pt.” marking and front snake and star motif and partially obscures the markings. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Stagecoach Holdup scene. The serial number is visible on the butt and on the underside of the barrel wedge.
