Historic Presentation Inscribed JP Sauer Model 38H Semi-Automatic Pistol
   LOT 1553
Extremely Rare Documented “Heinrich Himmler” Presentation J.P. Sauer Model 38H Semi-Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 475396, 7.65 mm auto cal., 3 3/4 inch round bbl., blue finish, black checkered plastic grips. This is an extremely rare late production Model 38H J. P. Sauer & Sohn “Heinrich Himmler” shooting prize presentation pistol. This exact pistol is pictured and listed in the reference book “J. P Sauer & Sohns,
A Historical Study of Sauer Automatic Pistols” by Jim Cate and Nico Van Gijn on pages 353 and 356. This specific pistol is noted as being 1 of
5 Heinrich Himmler sniper shooting prize Sauer 38H pistols that were captured at the end of WWII. The pistols were purportedly presented to German snipers for 100 confirmed kills. One was actually captured at Hitler’s Berchtesgaden home. This specific example is the lowest serial number known. This Model 38 has the high-polish blue finish with the presentation inscription on the left side of the slide. The left side of
the slide is inscribed: “Dem Scarfschutzen-” followed by an engraved facsimile of the signature “H. Himmler”. The right side of the slide has the standard late production, two line factory legend “J.P. Sauer & Sohn, Suhl/ Cal. 7.65”, which is exactly the opposite side of standard production pistols. The pistol has checkered, black plastic grips with the encircled Sauer monogram on the left grip. The frame is serial numbered on the
left side below the slide serrations. It has the “eagle/N” proofmarks on the right rear side of the frame and slide and on the very front edge of the barrel. It comes complete with one magazine that has a dull blued finish that is marked on the rear edge of the floorplate “CAL,.7.65”. CONDITION: Excellent with 97% plus of the original high polish blue finish overall with one small rub/scratch mark on the left side of the slide on
the forward end of the inscription. The inscription and markings are all sharp. The grips are also in excellent condition with only minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Certainly an exceptionally rare documented “H. Himmler” J.P. Sauer & Sohn presentation pistol.
Estimate: 75,000 - 110,000
