Framed Colorized Print of Two Moons at
Little Bighorn by L.A. Huffman with Color Stencils - This print by legendary Montana photographer Laton Alton Huffman (1854-1931) has been colorized using water color tinting and
is marked with a 1913 dated Huffman copyright in the bottom right. The print itself shows Cheyenne chief Two-Moons on the sight of the Battle of Little Bighorn, attending what is believed to be the 25th anniversary of the battle. Two-Moons was one
of the chiefs that led the Native American force during the route of George Custer’s command. To either side of the print are thick card stock stencils
that were clearly used in the coloring process of the print, both being labelled “Huffman” and the one on the right marked “2 moon shirt”. The print and stencils are each 7 1/2 x 9 3/4 inches, matted, and presented side by side in a
14 3/4 x 39 1/2 inch frame.
CONDITION: Excellent with distinct image and color on the print with minimal wear, evidence of use on the stencils including correct over spray. The matting and frame are also excellent
with minimal wear.
Provenance: The John Fox Collection.
Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000
