Rare Heckler
& Koch PSG1 Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle with Scope, Case,
and Accessories - Serial no. A051048, 308 cal., 26 inch heavy round bbl., black finish, synthetic stock, walnut grips. Notes from
the consignor attribute this PSG1 to be the work of Murray Urbach from around 2001 using all factory parts. Said to have been
developed at the request of West German police units following the Munich Massacre at the 1972 Summer Olympics, where police units
lacked the precision shooting ability to effectively neutralize the terrorists to prevent the hostages from being killed. H&K was commissioned to create
a high capacity, highly accurate, semi-automatic rifle for military and law enforcement use. Based on the H&K G3 series of rifles with a 26 inch, heavyweight, free
floating, stainless steel barrel with polygonal rifling, no provisions for standard fixed sights, low noise bolt closing device (similar to the forward assist on the AR-15).
The receiver has integral scope bases with a Hensoldt PSG1 6x42 illuminated reticle scope, and adjustable trigger with adjustable shoe. The magazine well is
correctly marked “PSG1” next to the serial number over “Cal..308” and dated “IB” (1981), contoured grip with adjustable palm shelf, and fixed polymer buttstock with adjustable comb and length of pull. Includes a Pelican 170 case containing an extra magazine and HK branded “Loga” pattern forearm rest.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% plus original black finish with a few minor handling marks and a safety drag line. Furniture is very fine with a few minor scuffs and coarse texture on the pistol grip. Mechanically excellent. Scope is also excellent with untested illumination, clear optics, and a crisp reticle.
Estimate: 16,000 - 20,000
