Factory Angiolino Gobbi Signed, Master Game Scene Engraved, and Gold Inlaid G. A. Armi Sidelock Double Barrel Shotgun with Case - Serial no. 008, 12 gauge, 27 1/2 inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin/gold finish, walnut stock. Single steel bead on the matted, concave solid rib, left barrel marked
“G. A. armi Gardone V.T. Italy”, 1 1/4 inch wedges of floral scroll engraving and a gold band at either breech, chambers measured at 2 3/4 inches with automatic
ejector, and standard Italian proofs dated 1988. The coin finished sidelock action displays exquisite deeply engraved floral scroll engraving on
a matted background surrounding four separate gold inlaid game scenes. The left shows a pair of grouse in flight above a hilly scene, the right has a pair of grouse over a forested scene, the underside shows a spaniel with a quail in its mouth, and the triggerguard has a solitary woodcock. The triggerplate is signed “A. GOBBI Inc”
for company founder and Master Engraver Angiolino Gobbi. The gun featured bushed firing pins, double triggers, and a tang mounted manual safety with gold inlaid “S”. Highly figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings, gold inlaid fancy inscription shield, and Anson button release along with the straight grip stock with tear drop flats and checkered bare butt. Includes
a leather bound takedown case and two nickel snap caps. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proved at 18.4 mm (.724 inches) and measured at .726 inches; choke constriction .023/.040 inches; minimum wall thickness .030/.029 inches; 1 5/16 inch drop at comb; 2 inch drop at heel; 14 7/8 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs 11 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 99% original blue, coin, and gold finishes with minor handling evidence. The wood is very good with some dings at the toe and heel and crisp checkering. The case is very fine. Mechanically excellent.

“Discovery of America” 20 Gauge Boxlock Double
Barrel Shotgun with Case - Serial no. 50183, 20 gauge,
28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. Single
steel bead sight on the smooth, concave solid rib which is marked “*THE DISCOVERY OF AMERICA*1492-1992*” , marked “MADE EXPRESSLY FOR/THE U.S. HISTORICAL SOCIETY” and “BY HOLLAND & HOLLAND LTD/31 & 33 BRUTON STREET. LONDON.” on the left and right respectively, chambers proved at 2 3/4 inches with ejectors, and Birmingham proofs. The satin finished action is essentially a Holland & Holland Cavalier action that features engravings of the Nina, Pinta, and
Santa Maria on the left, Columbus in the Bahamas on the right, Columbus’ coat of arms on the underside, and nautical
map themes in between. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings and Anson button release and straight grip stock with blank inscription oval and checkered bare butt. According to the consignor this shotgun was ordered as a prototype by the U.S. Historical society but never went into production. Includes a leather bound Holland & Holland takedown case with nickel oiler, snap cap, and cleaning tools. Stock measurements: 1 3/8 inch drop at comb; 2 1/16 inch drop at heel; 15 3/16 inch length of pull; weight 5 lbs 14 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 98% plus original finishes, minor handling evidence, and light spotting on the barrels and action. The wood is excellent with a few minor marks and sharp checkering. The case is very fine. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 10,000 - 15,000
