OE - GOOD - some minor replacement parts; metal smoothly rusted or lightly pitted in places, cleaned; principal lettering, numerals and design on metal legible; lightly scratched, bruised or minor cracks repaired; in good working order.

Description:

Whitney 2nd Type, solid frame Navy Revolver. The revolver has a cylinder with six safety notches and the cylinder is secured by a wing-nut on the left side of the frame. The top of the barrel is marked "E. WHITNEY/N. HAVEN" in two lines. The top of the loading lever is stamped with the pistol serial number. Grips are varnished walnut. The Whitney Navy Revolver was one of the first practical solid frame percussion revolvers. Nearly half of the Second Model Navy Revolvers were purchased by the U.S. Army, Navy or state governments for issue during the Civil War.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall. The revolver has a dark gray patina. Metal surfaces have numerous nicks and scratches with scattered pitting, particularly on the percussion nipples and rear cylinder face. Strong traces of original roll engraving remain on the cylinder. The brass trigger guard has a dark aged patina. The grips are in good condition and retain about 40% of the varnished finish. A chip is missing from the front corner of the right grip. Action works fine.
