OD - VERY GOOD- all original parts; none to 30% original finish; original metal surfaces smooth with all edges sharp; clear lettering, numerals and design on metal; wood slightly scratched or bruised.

Description:

This model is sometimes referred to as the "Old Army Model" and features the distinctive channel cut along the top of the loading lever to allow removal of the cylinder pin without dropping the loading lever. One of 12,000 revolvers manufactured in 1862. Marked "PATENTED DEC. 17 1861 / MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS' ILION. N.Y." on top of the barrel. Inspection letters "PS" are stamped on the left side of the barrel, frame and on the cylinder. Other sub inspector initial "J" on the top rear potion of the frame and "A" on the lower portion of the frame both on the left. The brass trigger guard is stamped with "R" and an "X" appears on the bottom of the barrel in front of the loading lever. Other features include German silver cone front sight and notched rear sight. Finished with a pair of smooth walnut grips with a faint cartouche on the left grip stock.

Rating Definition:

Very good. All metal surfaces have been cleaned to an even satin gray patina showing minor handling marks and only a few small handling marks. The grips are fine with pressure marks concentrated on the butt. One does not find these very scarce and desirable early martially inspected Remington civil war revolvers very often.
