Colt Dragoon Revolver 44
This is a British variation of the Third Model Dragoon (that was custom engraved in the 20th Century). The only notable differences are the English proof marks and distinct number 1 to 700 serial number range (this revolver is 622). These revolvers were manufactured in Hartford and then finished in Colt's London Factory from 1853 to 1857. Two hundred of these revolvers came back to the U.S. in 1861 to be used in the Civil War. This revolver has almost full coverage of contemporary hand engraved broad leaf scroll with a punch dot background. The front strap, loading lever and under side of the trigger guard, frame and barrel lug are the only surfaces not engraved. The top of the barrel is marked "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY", "COLTS / PATENT" is marked on the left side of the frame in a panel, the British "crown / V" and "crown / GP" proofs are marked on the left side of the barrel lug and alternating on the cylinder at the shoulders.
