James Beattie & Co. are recorded at 104 Queen Victoria St., EC, London from 1881 until 1894 and this duck gun dates to circa 1888. With browned damascus barrels with concave rib with doll’s head extension and illegible barrel address. Border engraved rotary underlever action with carved percussion fences. Border engraved back action locks signed "J. BEATTIE & Co", smooth double triggers, and serial number "17,917" marked on the extended lower tang. Figured walnut pistol grip stock with checkered grip and forearm, horn grip cap, blank brass escutcheon, and rubber recoil pad. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
