Description:

Manufactured in 1942, arsenal records (as listed in "The Colt U.S. General Officers' Pistol" by Greeley, page 71) denote this as a General Officer pistol issued in 1961. While the Greeley record does not include a name, the included shipping box is labeled as being from the Letterkenny Ordnance Depot to BGEN James M. Illig. A Pennsylvania-born graduate of the USMA and Harvard, Illig served with the Quartermaster Corps during World War II, and the time this pistol was issued corresponds with his assignment as Comptroller and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Continental Army Command at Fort Monroe. A modern soft case is also included.
