The box these items came in was hand-marked "COLT SHOTGUN/GAGES + EXPERIMENT/MODEL PARTS [sic]." An 12-11-88 dated sheet from Gerald M. Mac Neish with images of many of the components and notes about what they are is also included as is a letter from Mac Neish to Richard Baker discussing the components and noting: "You have a good mix of both parts for the Model 1878 'Hammer' gun and the Model 1883 'Hammerless'. It would seem that all are R & D Shop Models or prototypes or experimental parts. The items consist mainly of parts in the white, including a not Model 1878 frame, a pair of lock plates that fit the frame, pair of Cooper back action locks, trigger plate assembly with triggers and trigger guard bow, internal hammer style lock plates with internals for an unknown model, and a selection of tangs, screws, triggers, and other components. Condition is generally very good with mild age and storage related wear including some patina.
