Winchester Model 1876 Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter and N. Flayderman Co. Letter

The included factory letter states the rifle was received in the warehouse on August 7, 1889 and shipped the same day with an octagon barrel in .40-60 caliber, plain trigger, and half magazine. It is a Third Model with integral dust cover guide and dust cover with grip serrations at the rear. The Winchester Model 1876 found popularity among those who viewed the Model 1873 as underpowered and were looking for something capable of stopping anything they might encounter. It has a shortened 24 inch octagon barrel and a button magazine. The top barrel flat has the standard two-line address/King's patent marking and the "40-60 W.C.F." caliber marking at the breech, which is repeated on the bottom of the cartridge elevator. The model designation is marked on the upper tang and the serial number is on the lower tang. It is fitted with a gold plated combination front sight, "1876" marked folding ladder rear sight, and a tang mounted peep sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. Includes an N. Flayderman Co. Inc. letter stating that a rifle with these specifications had been previously purchased from them.

ConditionFine as modified (see above), retains 70% of the original blue finish, 30% of the vibrant original case colors, and 20% of the original nitre blue with the balance mostly a plum-brown patina. The reoiled wood is also very fine with some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
