Description:

The No. 49 "Walnut Hill" rifles were manufactured between around 1896 to the 1930s. This rifle was built on a No. 44 action marked "49" on the front face with elaborate engraving consisting of panels of scroll patterns and border designs as well as a hunting dog on the left side. It has a globe front sight, tang peep sight, and double set triggers. The barrel is marked with the two-line Stevens legend on the top flat and the caliber designation "25.20" on the bottom flat under the forearm. The barrel and forearm are numbered to the gun. The Schnabel forearm and pistol grip stock are checkered. The buttstock has a cheekpiece and Swiss buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains 97% bright refinished polish blue finish with some rub wear at the muzzle. The receiver has faded to an attractive gray. The wood is also very fine with a repaired chip on the forearm (right side), some minor dings and scratches and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
