Manufactured in 1932, this is an exceptional example of a factory engraved Colt Officer's Model Target revolver. In "The Book of Colt Firearms" on p. 357, Sutherland and Wilson state that only approximately 20 of this variation of the Officer's Model were factory engraved, making this example very scarce. The included factory letter confirms the current configuration including the factory Level "A" engraving (grips not listed) as well as shipment to Lawlor Sporting Goods Co. in Lincoln, Nebraska on 28 March 1931 as a single gun shipment. The engraving features beautiful grade "A" coverage flourishes of floral scroll on the sides of the frame, the barrel, the cylinder, and the trigger guard. This exact revolver is pictured on p. 309 of "Colt Pistols" by Wilson, where the engraving is attributed to Colt factory Master Engraver, Wilbur Glahn. Glahn was very active from 1920-1950 and was a well-known and favored engraver of Colt pistols. The top of the barrel is marked with the standard two-line address and patent dates while the model and caliber marking are on the left. A Colt "VP" verified proof is on the left of the frame near the trigger guard and the Rampant Colt is on the left rear of the frame. The matching serial number is on the frame and crane. It is fitted with an adjustable blade front sight, adjustable notch rear sight, and a pair of smooth grips with Colt medallions at the tops.

Very fine, retains 85% plus of the original blue finish with some light edge wear and some slight thinning on the grip straps. The replacement grips are also very fine with a few hairline age cracks in the butts and otherwise only the slightest handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A very attractive factory engraved Colt Officer's Model Target revolver!
