Description:

Few firearms are more deeply associated with the American West than the Colt Single Action Army and perhaps no other state personifies the image of the Wild West more the Texas. As a Texas shipped Peacemaker with silver plated finish, it is not hard to imagine this SAA hanging off the hip of a flamboyant gunslinger. These revolvers were not only popular with western cowboys but also law enforcement throughout the country due to their rugged dependability and firepower. The accompanying factory letter states the revolver was sold to W. Yarbrough (address unavailable) and shipped to Walter Tips of Austin, Texas, on March 10, 1894 with a 4 3/4 inch barrel in .38-40 caliber, blue finish (currently silver plated), and type of stocks not listed. This was a two gun shipment. German native Walter Tips (1841-1911) was a prominent Austin merchant who served as a state senator for four years in the late 1890s, was a member of the State Penitentiary Commission, and served in the Confederate Army stationed along the Texas coast throughout the Civil War. Standard Colt markings and matching numbers on the frame, trigger guard, and back strap. Comes with a Ben Varga of San Antonio, Texas, leather holster rig (money belt).

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 95% plus of the period replated silver finish with some loss at the muzzle and some scattered minor high edge wear. The later production replacement simulated pearl grips are fine, showing minimal handling evidence. Mechanically fine. The holster rig is very good showing a few small tears and overall flex wear. An attractive SAA holster rig linked to Texas.
