Description:

The distinctive Springfield Model 1899 carbines were the final variants of the famous Krag-Jorgensen rifles made for the U.S. Military by Springfield Armory before the armory switched over to the Model 1903. Around 36,000 of these carbines were manufactured. These differ from the earlier carbines in the use of a 2 inch long stock and moving the barrel band forward 2 inches as well. They used a variety of different sights, and the handguards vary depending on the sight used. They are hard to find in high condition and original configuration like this carbine which dates to 1900 and has a matching "JSA/1900" cartouche, the standard Springfield markings, a pinned blade front sight, a "C" stamped 1898 pattern adjustable notch rear sight graduated out to 2,000 yards, the rarer small cocking knob with knurling, and a takedown cleaning rod in the stock. Provenance: The Allan Cors Collection; Property of a Gentleman

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 95% plus original blue and casehardened finish, minor storage marks, some brightness around the front sight, and distinct markings on the excellent wood, including the cartouche. Mechanically excellent and nearly impossible to improve upon.
