This is an exceptional example of a cased Colt Model 1849 revolver that was manufactured in 1856. The barrel is marked "{ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW YORK CITY}" on the top flat. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene and is marked "COLTS PATENT" above the matching serial number. The left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT". Complete matching serial number on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder with matching partial number on the wedge, cylinder pin, loading lever and handwritten in black ink inside the rear mortise of the grip. Blue barrel and cylinder, casehardened frame, hammer and loading lever, and silver plated brass trigger guard and back strap, and fitted with a one-piece varnished walnut grip. Includes a maroon lined hardwood case containing a "COLTS/PATENT" marked eagle powder flask, "COLT'S PATENT" marked brass bullet/ball mold, and an Eley Bros. cap tin.

Excellent, retains 95% plus bright original high polish blue finish with a few small patches of light flaking showing through to smooth brown patina, 97% plus vivid original case colors with some light fading on the right of the loading lever, and 99% original silver plated finish. The grip is also excellent with distinct edges, a few dents and handling marks, and retains most of the original varnish finish. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with scattered mild handling marks and aging, and the accessories are very fine.
