Manufactured in 1863. The Colt Model 1862 Police, known in the period as "Colt's Police Pistol" and "Colt's New Model Revolving Police Pistol," was the last model released during Samuel Colt's life. Formal police departments were fairly new and just starting to be more common in the U.S. when this model came out. "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA." on the top of the barrel, "COLTS/PATENT" on the left of the frame. All matching visible serial numbers on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt, wedge, cylinder, cylinder pin and handwritten in black ink inside the grip mortise. Provenance: The Tom Haas, Jr. Collection; Property of a Gentleman

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 40% original blue finish overall with scattered flaking and smooth brown patina on the balance, 70% plus vivid original case colors with smooth gray patina on the balance, and 60% original silver plated finish. Grip is very fine with most of the original varnish, a few scattered handling marks, and light edge wear on the otherwise defined edges. Mechanically excellent.
