This rifle comes from the town of Juelich in western Germany and dates to the mid-19th century with a rifled barrel with dovetailed blade and notch sights, "..M. ZELLER IN JUELICH..." in gold inlay on top, and a pair of gold bands ahead of the nicely shaped and engraved bolster. The back action lock with no half-cock position and is decorated with a reposed deer and scrollwork. It is fired with adjustable double set triggers. The furniture is also engraved and features scrollwork and stag scenes en suite with the lock. The stock has a short 12 inch length of pull and features scroll carving shaped checkered panels on the wrist, a carved horn grip extension, and a relief carved stag scene behind the cheekpiece on the left.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 75% plus of the original plum color finish remaining, bright gold inlays, mostly silver gray on the lock and furniture, some faint oxidation, and minor overall wear. The stock is also fine and has crisp carving and checkering, a small insect spot at the edge of the horn, minor checks at the butt on the left, and general minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
