Description:

Carl Daniel Tanner (1791 - 1858) moved to Hanover in 1829 and was a royal gunmaker to the King of Hanover and Duke of Brunswick. This interesting pepperbox is operated by pulling on the release trigger ahead of the trigger guard while cocking the hammer to advance the six-shot barrel group. The action has "TANNER A HANOVER" signed below the hammer, and the revolver features elaborate German scroll and engraving patterns along with a reposed male lion on the top. Each of the six smoothbore, Damascus barrels has a bead front sight. A notch rear sight is fitted on the top of the action. The trigger guard is spurred. The stock has a checkered wrist and flared pommel.

Rating Definition:

Fine with crisp engraving and marking, 40% of the faded original brown finish and Damascus patterns visible along the barrels along with some faint pitting, light original case colors mixed with dark patina, 75% plus original blue on the trigger guard, and general minor age and storage related wear overall. The stock is also fine and has crisp checkering, some light scratches and dings, some filled knots, and a small sliver absent on the upper left edge. Mechanically fine.
