Description:

This pistol is signed with maker name "J./Parr" on the lock, likely John Parr who is listed as an active gunmaker out of Liverpool between 1765-1800. Birmingham proofs on the left of the barrel at the breech, with a large brass wrist escutcheon period inscribed "Capt J.M. NIELL/H.M.S. Result". No further information has been located on this individual at the current time. There is a later ship found called the HMS Result that was active between 1893-1967, although the timeframe of this pistol suggests that is not the ship that matches the inscription, and that ship was likely named after an earlier one. Nearly all of the components are brass which is more resistant to corrosion and was popular with British seamen. Iron trigger, hammer and some small parts. Walnut stock and horn tipped walnut ramrod. Features floral and border engraving on most of the components.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with attractive bright golden patina on the brass, gray and darkened brown patina on the iron, and sharp engraving. The refinished stock is very good with a repaired split in the wrist showing an open crack, numerous scattered dents and scratches, and a chipped absent section at the front right edge. Mechanically fine.
