Description:

The included factory letter confirms the serial number, finish, caliber, stock, and October 24, 1964, date of shipment to Chuck's Gun Shop in Riverdale, Illinois, as a one gun shipment. The rifle also includes an August 19, 1964, dated letter from Thomas J. Turner, the Merchandising Manager at Colt to a Mr. James Alessio. The letter details specifications of the AR-15 rifle, original price, and items included with the shipped rifles. The original sales receipts from Chuck's Gun Shop are also included, identifying the rifle by serial number with an initial order date of August 10, 1964. The rifle has all of the correct early features including the three-prong flash hider, post front sight, bayonet lug, ventilated triangular handguard, upper receiver without deflector or forward assist, correct unserrated bolt, fixed carry handle, two leaf windage adjustable rear peep sight, checkered grip, and fixed buttstock without the trapdoor buttplate. The rifle includes a Colt 3x AR-15 scope with the original box and July 2, 1965, sales receipt from Chuck's Guns for the scope.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall. The rifle has 99% original matte black finish with just a few small scattered nicks, and light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The scope is excellent with very little evidence of being mounted. Scope box is good with corner and edge wear, and slight discoloration appropriate to its age. A virtual time capsule of an early production Colt AR-15 Semi-Automatic Rifle with an original Colt scope and documentation.
